Stephanie Chen is a Melbourne-based Chinese bamboo flute (dizi) performer, cultural educator and multi-instrumentalist specialising in traditional Chinese woodwind instruments. She studied dizi at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, developing a strong foundation in Chinese traditional music and performance.
Through her performances, Stephanie brings the distinctive sounds of instruments including the dizi, xiao, hulusi and bawu to contemporary Australian audiences. Her musical style moves between ancient Chinese melodies, modern compositions and creative East–West fusion, exploring how traditional instruments can find a new voice on the modern stage.
Having performed at theatres, festivals, cultural celebrations and community events in both Australia and China, Stephanie is passionate about sharing the stories, history and expressive character behind Chinese music, creating performances that connect tradition with contemporary audiences across cultures.
