Sun of Africa Drum and Dance Ensemble (SOA) is passionately dedicated to West African culture. Adelaide-based SOA creates and facilitates colourful and artistic African performances by incorporating dance, rhythm, music, drumming, and workshops.
The group consists of artists (drummers , singers, and dancers and traditional masks ) bringing together a culturally diverse mix of performers who share their passion for West African music and dance. The dances performed are mainly from the Ivory Coast, however, the troupe also incorporates dances from all over Africa. Shows feature the high-energy rhythms of the djembe, PLUS, Unique to SOA, this Dance Ensemble is the ONLY troupe in Australia to perform traditional African (Ivory Coast) mask dances the “Zaouli” and “Sapro”, the mystery of the “Stilts” plus the traditional African flute.
Over the past 12 years, Sun of Africa has been awarded the Performance Arts of the Year Award at AFRICOMSA, and presented numerous vibrant shows and performances.
